The
department was started during the academic year 1996
- 97 with approval from AICTE and affiliation from University
of Madras; later from Anna University. This department
has impressive range of laboratories.
The
department library has an extensive collection of academic
books in the areas of latest technologies.
The
department has well equipped laboratory facilities in
the areas of thermal, fluid mechanics, dynamics, workshop,
CAD / CAM, strength of materials. Efficient staff guide
students & individual attention is given to students.
MR.
T.THOMAS KOIL RAJ,
Assistant Professor and Head of Department.
He obtained his Bachelor degree from Sathyabama Engineering
College, University of Madras and Master's Degree
in Production Engineering From Government College
of Technology, Coimbatore, and Masters degree in CIM
from Anna University.
He has been serving in G.K.M College of Engineering
and Technology from 1997. He has written a book on
Computer Aided Design.
He is well expertise in CAD/CAM, Production Technology,
Robotics, Modern Manufacturing Systems, Manufacturing
Science, Process Planning and Cost Estimation .
He is Contributing as life member with ISTE, NIQR,
MIE and ISPE in their activities.
The
department has stable, highly qualified and experienced
staff members in the staff student ratio of 1:13.
Students
are trained both quantitatively and qualitatively during
the lab session that enhance their understanding and
helps further to motivate them to taking projects and
proves as a helping hand to do their projects efficiently.
Practical
awareness is inculcated to the students by arranging
industrial visits & in-plant training.
Guest lecturers & seminars are held to update their
knowledge in mechanical engineering.
Personality
development programs are conducted to improve student's
soft skills.

REFRIGERATION
AND AIRCONDITIONING LAB
This
part of the lab houses refrigeration equipments and
air conditioning equipments to determine coefficient
of performance.
All
curricular requirements like orifice meter,
venturimeter, Weirs and machinery like centrifugal
pump, submersible pump, Francis turbine, Pelton
wheel, gear pump etc.are available in this lab.
